Testing Information

The 杏吧原创 State Assessment and Testing Center provides opportunities for students to meet their educational goals by offering assessments for course placement, program acceptance, and/or college admittance, as well as other exam services in an environment conducive to productive testing. The Testing Center is committed to creating a positive atmosphere where students feel comfortable and confident that they will receive services in a relaxed environment. Testing is by appointment only, however, same day appointments are available. Please contact the Testing Center at 256-551-3116 or testing@drakestate.edu to schedule an appointment.

Tests offered

ACCUPLACER Placement Assessment

杏吧原创 State uses ACCUPLACER to place students into the correct math and English classes. The test includes two parts: Next Generation Writing and Next Generation Quantitative Reasoning, Algebra, and Statistics. ACCUPLACER is administered on a computer and the test is not timed.

Why do I have to take ACCUPLACER?
We want our students to be successful, and correct course placement is foundational to a successful college experience. ACCUPLACER places students into the correct English and math class.

Where do I go to take the ACCUPLACER?
The testing center is locating in Building 700, Room 705.

When can I take the ACCUPLACER?
*Appointments are strongly encouraged. Please call 256-551-3116 to schedule an appointment.

Who can take ACCUPLACER?
Any student who has completed the application for admission. Students will not be permitted to test if an application for admission has not been submitted.

What do I need to bring with me?
You will need a picture ID, such as a driver鈥檚 license. Calculators are on the computer, so you will not need to bring one.

How long does it take?
It is not timed, but you should allow about 1.5 hours.

When will I know the results?
Immediately! Results are generated automatically when you finish.

May I take the Assessment again?
Yes, you may retest once per academic year, but there is a $10 fee per subject for each re-test. Placement test scores are valid for three years from the date of original or retest assessment.

ACT On-Campus Testing

The ACT On-Campus Testing is for application to the 杏吧原创 State Nursing Program. Scores from the ACT On-Campus exam given at 杏吧原创 State may be applied to other Alabama Community College System (ACCS) Schools only. To register, contact the Testing Center 256-551-3116

  • Registration fees are non-refundable.
  • Testing candidates must arrive on time; there is no late entry.
  • Candidates must provide an unexpired photo ID that matches their registration name. Options include: Driver鈥檚 License, 杏吧原创 ID, Passport, or other government issued ID.
  • ACT On-Campus Test candidates may bring an number 2 (non-mechanical) pencils and a watch that is not internet connected.
  • Number 2 pencils and scratch paper will be provided
  • No personal items will be allowed. No cell phones. Lockers are available.
  • Scores are generally available 10-14 days after the exam.
  • Scores from ACT On-Campus Testing are reported only to 杏吧原创 State. No Student Reports will be generated and the score will not appear on your transcript.
  • ACT庐 requires that individuals re-taking the ACT On-Campus exam wait 60 days between tests.
  • Covid precautions may be in place.

  • Applied Technology

奥辞谤办碍别测蝉庐 assessments are offered during regular test center hours. Please contact the Testing Coordinator for scheduling and fee information.

Alabama Peace Officers鈥 Standards and Training Commission (APOSTC)

APOSTC applicants can take the WorkKeys (BAT) exam at 杏吧原创 State.

The applicants will be assessed in the following skill areas:

  • Graphic Literacy
  • Applied Mathematics

Minimum Scores for Law Enforcement and Correctional Officer applicants:

Correctional Officer

  • Applicants should allow approximately three hours for the assessment.
  • Applicants are required to show a driver鈥檚 license photo ID.
GED

The GED Examination is administered at 杏吧原创 State by appointment only. For information on the GED Classes offered at 杏吧原创 State, please visit Adult Education on the college website or call 256-551-5211

Pearson Vue Exams

杏吧原创 State is a Pearson Vue Authorized Test Center.

All Pearson Vue exams are scheduled on the Pearson Vue website

What happens when I arrive to take an exam?

When candidates arrive for an exam, they go through a standard admissions process. Candidates are asked to provide two forms of identification, to agree in writing to a set of exam rules, and to sign a log sheet. In most cases, your photo and signature will be digitally captured as they would appear on your results report. Some exam sponsors may have other identification or check-in requirements.


Testing Center Guidelines

The following guidelines have been developed to ensure that our services are provided in a secure, confidential, and efficient manner:

  • Students must present an unexpired picture ID (no test will be given without proper ID).
  • Closed-circuit cameras are used to monitor all activity in the testing center.
  • Any item not required for your exam including notes, books, purses, calculators, and/or cell phones must be left outside of the testing room. Lockers are provided for your convenience. All electronics will need to be turned off.
  • The Testing Center assumes no responsibility for personal belongings.
  • Food and drinks are not allowed in the testing room.
  • No phone calls are allowed while taking an exam.
  • Respect others by remaining quiet during your exam.
  • Only students taking an exam are allowed in the Testing Center 鈥 no children or pets.
  • When your exam is completed, all materials, including scratch paper, must be given to the Testing Center staff.
  • Any accommodation requests will need to be made in advance through the Student Success Specialist.
  • Testing Center personnel may end a test session if all directions and procedures are not followed.
